Omaha After School Needs Assessment

Realizing the importance of assessing the after school situation in Omaha, a decision was made to facilitate a comprehensive needs assessment to help with the expansion and enhancement of programs. The Center for Organizational Research and Evaluation (CORE) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha was selected to carry out the needs assessment research. The needs assessment consisted of several important components.

Within this context, Mayor Mike Fahey and a group of concerned Omaha citizens, led by Richard Holland, Michael Yanney, Susie Buffett, Andy Holland, Wally and Barbara Weitz, Dianne Lozier, and Jerry and Cookie Hoberman, launched an initiative focused on improving academic performance, raising high school graduation rates, and rewarding every economically disadvantaged high school graduate in the Omaha Metropolitan Area with the financial means for an education after high school. Activate Omaha Kids, in partnership with Activate Omaha is a community-wide coalition of concerned leaders and organizations in the Metro Area who have come together under the name of "Activate Omaha Kids" to address the challenge of childhood obesity, a growing local and national problem.
