Mayor’s Message:
Thank you for visiting the website of the Greater Omaha After School Alliance (GOASA).
There is nothing more valuable to our community than our young people. Our youth are the future leaders of our City, and we must make every investment possible in their education and their success. One positive way we can influence the lives of our young people is by providing a safe environment in the after school hours, a time when children are most likely to encounter criminal and dangerous situations.
However, a recent study by America After 3 PM discovered that only 12% of children have the opportunity to participate in after school programs in our community.
That’s why the Mayor’s Office has organized GOASA - to improve the availability and accessibility of quality after school programs for all youth. As mayor, my focus on creating the brightest future for our young people includes three goals: education, enforcement and employment. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that every child in our community has the opportunity for a quality education, to graduate from high school, and continue on a path to a successful higher education and a career.
Again, thank you for your interest in GOASA. I look forward continuing to work on behalf of quality after school programs for our community.
With kind regards,

Jim Suttle, Mayor
City of Omaha
A National Problem
After school hours are a critical time for youth. That time can represent either an opportunity to learn and grow, through quality after school programs, or a time of risk to youth's health and safety. The after school hours are the peak time for juvenile crime and risky behaviors such as alcohol and drug use. Most experts agree that after school programs offer a healthy and positive alternative.
