Movin' After School is a collaborative initiative between the City
of Omaha Office of the Mayor, the University of Nebraska at Omaha,
and the Douglas County Department of Health. Movin' After School is just one of the projects funded by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Center for Disease Control, Communities Putting Prevention to Work Grant awarded to the Douglas County Department of Health in April 2010.
The purpose of this initiative is to encourage and support policy change in after school programs related to increasing physical activity participation and decreasing sugar sweetened beverage consumption among youth. Movin' After School will provide its members with professional development trainings, educational resources and references, supplemental booster sessions, and family nights to ensure that after school programs in Omaha encourage healthy lifestyles for the youth that they serve.
