Summer Youth Programs

Shape, build and connect your way through this mind-bending workshop. Students will learn the importance of teamwork and communication through challenges set to test their critical thinking skills. Put your brain to the test with this ultimate puzzle madness!

School is out and it's time to play! During this workshop students will learn about the games and pastime activities that children played before television and video games. Try your hand at a Native American game, pioneer fun, parlor games, and much more!

 

Learn all about Mother Nature as we explore the science behind some of the forces of geology and weather. Students will participate in hands-on experiments in many aspects of weather as they encounter static electricity, a tornado in a bottle, and make their own windsock!

The smell of cotton candy, the sight of a perfect sunset, and the feel of a soft blanket. All of these things trigger emotions in our brains that shape the way we perceive the world. Using our five senses allows us to feel, taste, smell, hear, and see the environment we live in. Come and explore your senses at the Durham and learn how theses senses shape our outlook on life.

 

So you think you have super human strength or catlike quickness? Stack, swing and balance everyday things while competing against your friends. Students will work individually and in teams to accomplish the seemingly impossible. Are you up to the challenge?

 

Guided Tour (1 hour length) (Ages 5-7, 8-12)
See and learn about 200 years of area history while exploring museum exhibitions. The tour includes information on the history of the building, and winds through restored train cars, into a Native American Earth Lodge and Tipi, through recreated early Omaha city homes, and to the Trans-Mississippi Exposition of 1898.
